NashVasion project - a Vernon Roberts video production with music by John Durant
Vernon Roberts and I collaborated on this awesome project which began as a tutorial for motion graphics techniques based on “The Last of Us”. The video was then featured in a showreel for the Maxon Design and Animation tour. The video is a simulated opening credits scene which ends with a graphic promoting Music City MoGraph which is a motion graphics group here in Nashville.
The project was designed to push the limits on the video resolution and feature music that would sound like a typical theme for a series soundtrack. This music is a mix of traditional instruments and sound design elements that sounds pretty large even in stereo. There’s a lot of detailed automation and custom sound design with a nice dose of room-shaking subs.
I’ll be doing more projects like this as I put together my own video productions and do more collaborations with others. I love this kind of work which really allows for a lot of creativity and fun!

My friend Vernon Roberts asked me to put some music to this video study he was working on. He requested piano with a string backing, and this video has a run time of a little over 30 seconds. The challenge to composing short pieces of music is to establish a beginning, middle, and end in a very short time. The music was added after the video was completed, so I was only able to sync up a music change to the video toward the end. We were very happy with the final project, and I’m looking forward to working with Vernon on some future projects.
